Bob burg on networking for business
'Networking is the cultivating of mutually beneficial give-and-take, win-win relationships."
"All things being equal people will do business with, and refer business to, those people they know, like, and trust."
Communication over time requires trust. In a transaction when a promises b something b expects that a will do what he says in a way that both parties have agreed to. In that way over time a base of trust is created. Talk the talk and walk the walk.
All the way along the line both parties rely on truthfulness. integrity is also an important part of this equation.
It strikes me that for BNI to work as a networking organisation the members need to adhere to these sort of standards. Without honesty and integrity from all members the cultivating of positive relations cannot grow.
I do recommend for all those interested in developing their networking skills to look at 'Endless Referrals' by Bob Burg.

For us normal ones not of royal rank with all the attendant privileges, we have to continue with all our normal day to day activities. And not having access to all those royal staffers, we have to find ways to make a living. Yes I know from those royal heights it is difficult to see, maybe one of those large grey lenses that all those royal photogrphers have would help. And from the royal list you could buy one of those top of the range hassleblats that would require a mortgage for us normal folk.
On a serious note re BNI I think it is essential for a BNI group to work there must be an adequate level of trust between members. That requires a level of honesty and integrity. The potential to help each other is enormous if people work together and if not there will just be modest gains. Commonsense. It is no good just turning up. Like anything else putting the work into the group will only reap rewards over time because there are no magic solutions except for a few exceptions like winning the lottery.
